Emotional Benefits by Adding Nurse Care

Researchers investigated the effect of adding a specialized nurse practitioner (NP) to MS patients’ standard care.

At the beginning of the study, the NP provided an extensive individualized consultation per patient. In addition, follow-up visits were also conducted after three and six months.

Results indicated similar satisfaction levels in the neurologist-based standard care group and NP add-on group.

It was found that depression was significantly lower when NP care was added to standard treatment, and depression and anxiety reduced after six months.

It was concluded that NPs could assist patients with different ongoing disease needs and improve well-being and functioning.
